Basic procedures for plastic mold polishing
In order to achieve high quality polishing effect, the most important thing is to have High quality polishing tools and accessories such as whetstone, sandpaper and diamond paste.
The general process of plastic mold polishing is as follows:
1,fine buffing
Polishing mainly USES diamond abrasive paste.The usual grinding order is 9 m (#1800) ~ 6 m (#3000) ~3 m (#8000) if the polishing wheel is used to mix the diamond grinding powder or paste.9 m diamond abrasive paste and polishing wheel can be used to remove the hair marks left by #1200 and #1500 abrasive paper.It is then polished with felt and diamond paste in the order of 1 m (#14000) ~ 1/2 m (#60000) ~1/4 m (#100000).Polishing processes with accuracy requirements above 1 m (including 1 m) can be carried out in a clean polishing chamber in the tooling workshop.For more precise polishing an absolutely clean space is required.Dust, smoke, dandruff and saliva can all be discarded after hours of work to produce a highly precise polished surface.
2,rough cast
After milling, electric spark, grinding and other processes of the surface can be selected in the rotational speed of 35 000-40 000 RPM rotary surface polishing machine or ultrasonic grinding machine for polishing.Commonly used methods include using Φ 3 mm in diameter, the wheels of the WA # 400 to remove white edm layer.Then we grind it with a hand whetstone, a strip of whetstone and kerosene as a lubricant or a coolant.The general order of use is #180 ~ #240 ~ #320 ~ #400 ~ #600 ~ #800 ~ #1000.Many die makers choose to start with #400 to save time.
3,Semi-finishing
Semi – polishing mainly USES sandpaper and kerosene.The Numbers of sandpaper are: #400 ~ #600 ~ #800 ~ #1000 ~ #1200 ~ #1500.In fact #1500 sandpaper is only used for hardened die steel (above 52HRC) and not for prehardened steel as this may cause surface burns to the prehardened steel.
4,Fine buffing
Use grinding paste for finishing, 8000,10000 to achieve a mirror.
